Annually, it is estimated that around 200,000 patients are diagnosed worldwide. Preliminary data obtained in animal models show that the strategy developed by TargTex \u2013 a hydrogel applied to the tumor removal site \u2013 releases the active substance in a controlled manner over several days, eliminating cancer cells that were not completely removed through surgery. Thus, an effective way of eliminating cancer cells is achieved in a short period of treatment and after a single application.<\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div>TargTex, founded in 2019, a spin-off company of the Research Group of Professor Gon\u00e7alo Bernardes at the Instituto de Medicina Molecular Jo\u00e3o Lobo Antunes (IMM), in Lisbon, focuses on the development of new pharamaceutical candidates for cancer, boasting as its more advanced product, an innovative treatment for GBM.<\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div>Jo\u00e3o Seixas, CEO of TargTex, says that \u201cOur goal is to make this therapy a reality for cancer patients. Basi believed in the potential of our project and with this investment we will be able to carry out pre-clinical tests that will allow us to complete a package of essential toxicological data to request authorization to start clinical trials in humans.
